Tell us a little about yourself and your business
My name is Vivek Singh, and I am the CEO and Founder of The Cinnamon Collection, a group of five modern Indian restaurants in London and Oxford. I’m also the author of six cookbooks, and you might sometimes catch me cooking my favourite dishes on TV and at live cookery events.
What precautionary measures is your business taking to guard the safety and welfare of visitors?
We are taking a number of precautionary measures to ensure the safety and welfare of both our guests and our team. In addition to following government guidance around distancing, we are also revising a number of internal processes to ensure that we offer several options to our guests – alongside moving to single use menus, for example, we are exploring different technology options such as QR codes to facilitate virtual menus and remote at table ordering. Every aspect and process in the business is being re-evaluated, and where possible one way in and another way out is being drawn out.
Can we expect anything different or innovative to enhance the customer experience?
More than ever, this is the time to be innovating: menus are being shortened and refreshed, our wine lists are being transferred onto apps, we are offering click and collect, and new systems such as remote at table ordering are being explored. Changes to service style, and making people feel welcome while maintaining a safe distance and wearing masks are all demanding innovation and creativity! But it’s a new challenge and one we are determined to get right.
Can you tell us one lesson that you have learnt during the shutdown?
That’s easy – the biggest lesson for me has been the realisation of how much I love doing what I do!
